Tao’s Giro

The 2020 Friends of the Podcast series

In this hour-long friends special Tao Geoghegan Hart tells Richard Moore all about his win at the Giro d'Italia, from the crash at the Tour de l'Ain that destroyed his hopes of riding the Tour de France to eventually, after two stage victories and three weeks of gradually ascending general classification, riding into Milan and taking the pink jersey from Jai Hindley.

From Milan he returned to Spain and then drove to London, with the Giro trophy – the actual trophy – and one pink jersey in his suitcase. "I was supposed to get a few, but I only seem to have one," he says. "Which is kind of fitting."

What was it like to ride behind Rohan Dennis on the Stelvio? To switch from support rider to leader when Geraint Thomas crashed? To be part of a team that won seven stages? And to join cycling's most special club, of Grand Tour champions?
