The 2021 Friends of the Podcast series

Covering Team Sky started life as a three-part series of articles on Lionel’s website in 2018. He has now written a fourth part and recorded each of them for Friends of the Podcast to listen to.

Each part covers a different aspect of covering Team Sky since its launch in 2009. Part one focuses on an interview Lionel did with the team’s boss Dave Brailsford about its founding principles.

Part two covers the team’s disappointing first season in 2010. Part three focuses on Lionel’s trip to the 2011 Critérium du Dauphiné, when he travelled with the team. We now know this was when the infamous Jiffy Bag was delivered to the team. Part four covers the 2012 season, when Bradley Wiggins won the Tour de France and Olympic Games time trial but Team Sky’s recruitment policy came under intense focus.

Part 1: The Founding Principles. Run time: 22 mins
Part 2: A Difficult Debut Season. Run time: 18 mins
Part 3: TUEs and The Jiffy Bag. Run time: 15 mins
Part 4: 2012. Run time: 30 mins
