Richie Porte’s first grand tour brought him a day in pink, the white jersey and a seventh-place overall finish that for six years remained his sole top ten over three weeks.

Having already revisited that breakthrough 2010 race on the first rest-day of Our Giro, we interrogate Richie about the highs, the lows, the laurels and the criticisms that have followed over the last decade. “I’ve had a great career,” he says. So why is more weight still given to his failures than his successes?
