Earlier this year we invited some of our most generous friends to come up with ideas for a Friends Special. From the many good suggestions we received, we selected ‘How to Retire’ by Stephen Harris, then worked with him as guest editor to make the episode.
Part one of this two-part special covers the discussion between Lionel Birnie, Richard Moore and François Thomazeau that led to the selection of Stephen’s idea, then an initial conversation with Stephen to discuss possible approaches and interview subjects.
In part two we hear from a current rider thinking about retirement, Steve Cummings, the soon-to-retire Mat Hayman and the recently retired Tom Veelers, Chris Hoy, Fabian Cancellara and Juan Antonio Flecha. There’s also an interview with Gearoid Towey, an Irish ex-rower who now runs an organisation helping athletes transition to retirement. For the past two years, Towey has worked with the EF-Education First-Drapac team, helping the riders plan for life after cycling.
In these two episodes we say thank you to all the Friends of the Podcast, without whose support we couldn’t do what we do.
