The final episode for 2016 Friends of the Podcast is Full Circle: The Bradley Wiggins Story by Richard Moore, Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie.

We began work on this episode after the Rio Olympics, where Wiggins had won his fifth gold medal. The script was written. Wiggins was to bow out in Ghent, the city of his birth, partnering his world championship Madison partner Mark Cavendish and end his career as the first British Tour de France winner, a world and Olympic champion on the track and road and the current Hour Record holder.

But the sheen was taken off the golden glow from Rio when the Fancy Bears hackers leaked information showing that Wiggins had applied for therapeutic use exemptions to use a banned corticosteroid just before several grand tours, including his victorious 2012 Tour.

This two-part podcast looks at the whole of Wiggins’ career, the good, the bad and the controversial, covering his early days, the years when he appeared to be treading water on the road with a succession of French professional teams, his track success and then his transformation into a grand tour rider and, ultimately, a Tour champion. And we ask what his legacy will be.

We hear from some of the team-mates and coaches who have been closest to him over the course of his career, including Jonathan Vaughters, Dave Brailsford, Shane Sutton, Sean Yates, Rob Hayles and many more.
