GO TO 2015
GO TO 2016
GO TO 2017
We need your support
The Cycling Podcast, presented by Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe, spluttered into life in late June, 2013, with a preview of the Tour de France. We produced daily shows during that Tour thanks to sponsorship from Sharp.
We carried on as a weekly show in 2013 and into 2014, again thanks to Sharp. The Telegraph became our media partner for the 2014 Tour de France, with Jaguar sponsoring our daily shows. We broadcast on-the-ground reports, with exclusive interviews as well as commentary, discussion, analysis and debate from our three presenters, all experienced and respected cycling journalists. In 2014 we became the first podcast ever to be accredited to the Tour de France.
Thanks to our Friends scheme, launched in 2015, we have been able to secure The Cycling Podcast’s short-term future and achieve our aim of improving the quality and widening our coverage and ambition. We have also been able to attract sponsors such as Eurosport, and Rapha, whose support has covered further costs: payment of production staff who had previously worked as volunteers, travel expenses, better equipment, more shows and a further ‘professionalisation’ of the podcast.
But we also want you to know that your financial support enabled us to produce over 160 free podcasts; to cover, for the first time, all three Grand Tours in their entirety; and to produce a new monthly show, The Cycling Podcast Féminin.
In 2017 the cost of being a Friend of the Podcast will remain £10, which we hope you feel offers good value. A few of you have, however, said that you would like to pay more – really! You don’t have to pay more, but if you would like to, there will be an opportunity to do so. You could say that this is a twist on a payment model that some of Lionel’s favourite restaurants are deploying: ‘Pay what you think it’s worth.’
We hope you do renew your friendship for 2017. We want to build on what we have achieved in 2016, including daily shows at the three Grand Tours, more episodes of Kilometre 0, monthly episodes of TCP Féminin and more. We are proud of the eleven Friends Specials we produced in 2016 and we end this year brimming with ideas for Friends Specials in 2017. We want to keep raising the bar with these shows, digging deeper into some of the stories that interest us (and hopefully you – we are open to ideas, of course).
All being print journalists, we are still learning about this medium and we appreciate your comments about what you think we do well and what you think we could do better.
This is how we intend to move forward: consolidating what we have using proceeds from our Friends scheme, and making the listening experience even better and broader with the aid of sponsorship.
Thank you for your continued support.
